A quiet run & my marathon shoe!!! & my 1st giveaway!!!!

Today was a different run for me. I was a quiet run which means no iPod. I did 6.5 miles at an 8:16 pace. I have been running with my iPod for I have no idea how long, but it has been a long time since I have run without it. My favorite things to listen to are podcasts, audiobooks, and some music from a church I like in California. I really like listening to something in part because I hate to hear my breathing. When I hear myself breathe I feel like I am doing worse than I actually am….if that even makes sense. I read an article where Neely Spence Gracey talked about her breathing technique. She said, “Synching my breathing with my strides helps me stay relaxed, focused, and base my effort more accurately. I breathe in four strides and out four strides at a very easy effort, in three and out three for a normal run, in two and out two for a harder run, and in one out one for all-out kicking at the end.” Okay, so maybe it is just me and my lack of coordination, but I could not figure this out! Trying to count strides at the same time was not working for me at all.

Well, anyways, back to the run. It really was not bad at all….I really enjoyed it. We’ll see how I feel after a quiet long run! It definitely got my mind going though! I was wishing I had a pen and paper with me to jot down ideas as they were coming to me. I am going to have to keep a pad by my front door so that as soon as I get home I can write down my thoughts!!!

In other news…I found my marathon shoe!!!!!

DSC_0005I have been running in and absolutely loving the Mizuno Wave Rider’s. They have become “my shoe”. I was thinking I would race in them, but decided I wanted to try the Elixers. They are a tiny bit lighter and I had a gift card to Running Warehouse. I got them, tried them, and they are it!!! I suppose there is some small chance I will change my mind after doing a long run in them, but I highly doubt it!

I cannot rave enough about how much my feet loved these shoes! I look forward to many more wonderful years and races running in these shoes!

I am now currently working on becoming a member of the Mizuno Mezamashii run project…..that is how much I really love my Mizuno shoes!

Oh my goodness, I’m the same way!! When I can hear myself breathing and gasping for air it really gets in my head and makes me think I am doing way worse than I really am!! I love listening to music mainly to distract myself, and as mini goals during my run! Your shoes are so cute..I’ve never tried Mizuno’s before, but after hearing so many fantastic things about them maybe I should???

98% of my runs are done without music. The 2% are on the treadmill listening to a tv show and .010 of that 2% is because I actually did my long run with music for the first time in FOREVER last weekend.

I totally think it is a matter of what you are used to! I wish 98% of mine were without it. For the treadmill tv is a must!!! It helps me not to feel too much like a hampster! šŸ™‚

I usually listen to my TobyMac station on Pandora while I run & it is set to ‘sleep’ after an hour, so whatever I run over an hour is without music. Sometimes when I’m going on my long run, I’ll purposely run the first part without just so the hour will cover the end of my run! šŸ™‚
