Runner’s March Madness & my weekend run!

I am not even going to talk about the weather…just not going to do it!!!! šŸ™‚

My pictures say it all:

I am going to talk about March Madness!!!! I love it! After running (of course!!!!!), basketball is my next favorite sport :). I played for 2 years in high school. It is one of my oldest daughter, Alyssa’s, favorites too! We also have fun with a little friendly competition around here, so March madness is right up our alley!

Although I love basketball, March madness is actually the only basketball that I really watch. I just don’t like NBA games as much, and while we have fun with our brackets, we don’t actually sit down and watch ALL those games :)! I have some games that I have specifically wanted to watch, and then we record a bunch and watch the end of the close games (the best way to do it)!!! I have a really strategic way of picking my teams….NOT! I totally pick them based on random stuff (like…I have a friend from there or I like the color of their uniforms better or I like a player on that team or I am just going for the underdog; thank you Mercer!!!!) and last year I won our bracket and this year I am in first! The year before last my husband won and I got 2nd…that was fun! It all came down to the last game! This year I have FL to take it all!

And these are just cute!

Speaking of March madness fun….this is a sheer stroke of genius!!!! I LOVE it and have some great friends in the “running” :)!!!!

SO fun!!!!

Now onto my weekend run. I wanted to get some speed in, but I also have been wanting to push the distance a little. I did both and it was a beautiful day! I love runs in 50 degree weather, and this winter is making me appreciate them even more :)!

I did a 3 mile warm up (8:22 pace), then 5Ā  1/2 marathon goal pace miles (I actually went a bit faster…6:27, 6:38, 6:44, 6:45, 6:47), and 3 cool down miles (8:16). This was a total of 11 miles. I was very happy that I did it with no breaks in between. I think I have the ability to recover fast (my usual recovery is walking), and I have been wanting to do more active recovery to simulate race situations. The only thing I would like to do better is flip around my goal paced miles so that my fastest was last and not first!!! It was a great workout to prep for my 1/2 coming up in 2 1/2 weeks!!!!

Sunday I took off. Yesterday was 7 miles at an 8:20 pace and today was 7 miles at an 8:40 pace.

Anyone else fill out a bracket? Who do you have winning?

Who else was blessed with snow? šŸ™‚

I was all prepared to be extremely mad at Mother Nature today but thankfully the Nor’easter that was predicted to dump on us today blew out to sea. We got ZERO snow! It’s still freakin’ cold but at least we can see bare ground!

Hallelujah! Be thankful for the little things right šŸ™‚ I am so glad it missed you :)!!! It is totally far too cold!

You rocked that 11 miler!!! Nicely done.
I agree that not saying anything about the weather is the best way to go now.
As for March Madness – I’m not a fan but I love watching my husband go nuts with his brackets. He should have asked you for input as he had Duke going pretty far. Oh well, maybe next year šŸ™‚
