The miles and the blessings of 2014- Part 1

It is right around this time of the year that it really hits me just how fast the year has flown by!  I think it is funny that as I think about the coming year and things that I want to accomplish or change, a year seems like such a long time. Yet as I look back and reflect on this past year, it has just gone so fast. I really do think that having kids just makes time wiz on by!!! I found this picture of my girlies and it seems like it was just yesterday….nope it was really like 7 years ago!

I am not a big “resolutions” person simply because I don’t want to wait for a date on a calendar to make a change in my life. However, as the year comes to end and a new year begins, I do like to look back and look ahead. I like to think about how the year was for me spiritually, physically and personally. I also like to think about what I can do to make the coming year better.

As I think about this past year what I really want to focus on is the blessings. I titled this part one because I thought it would be fun to split my year in review into 2 parts. One part being the blessings and the other being the miles (so check back tomorrow for my year in miles!!!).

This past year has been a great and exciting year for our family. We moved from Iowa to Maryland and God has guided and been faithful every step of the way. We love the beautiful area that we live in. We love our church and the friends that we have made.

I really do feel so incredibly blessed and one of my goals for this year is to notice and appreciate those blessings as much as I can! For starters, I am married to the most amazing husband and my very best friend.

I have 2 wonderful girls that make me so proud to be a mom. My family has been blessed with good health, great friends and such a wonderful church family.

God has given us a house and the list of material blessings can go on and on. This year I want to focus on the blessings and use them to be a blessing to others.

It can be so easy to focus on things in your life that you wish were different or that you wish you had, let me challenge you to to be thankful for what you have no matter where you are at in life and watch how seeing the blessings can help so many areas.

Another thing I want to remind myself of is the small things in life are really the big things. All those little moments that I have with my husband and my kids; they are so important and I want to take them all in.

new year

I also want to continue to grow and strengthen my faith. God has done such amazing things and I look forward to seeing all that he has in the coming year!!!

Psalm 90:12- So teach us to number our days, that we may apply our hearts unto wisdom.

This verse is a reminder to me not to take anything for granted. I want to continually ask myself; If I knew I only had xx amount of days left here on Earth what would I do differently? This can be such a sobering question, but one that is good to reflect on.

So, while I do have some more specific things that I want to work on this year, they all revolve around this…..

1. Focus on the blessings and be a blessing to others.

2. Cherish all the moments, big and small.

3. Look to God, learn about God and listen to God.

 Happy new year!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
