A trip to RI and back, a 13 year old & the kids marathon!!!

You must be thinking wow, what a title.

I am thinking, wow, what a week!

Wednesday morning the girls and I left for Rhode Island for my grandma’s funeral and we came home Thursday afternoon. My grandma was such a wonderful woman who I loved very much. She lived to be 87 years old. The loss of a loved one really gets you thinking about how short our time is here on this Earth and how important it is to prioritize our time. It also makes you think about all the special memories you have with your family and loved ones. How most of those memories can be doing something so simple, yet those times are so special!

I am really glad we were able to make it for her funeral. It was really nice to see my parents, sisters, uncles, aunts and cousins. I was also able to meet a niece of my grandma’s that I found out lives not far from me so that was neat!

As we drove through New York and Connecticut I was thinking about how fun it would be to contact Michelle and Allie and go for a run together!!! 🙂 (maybe someday)

Friday my kids had their kids marathon and it was a blast! I love everything about this race. The kids run 25 miles and then the race is 1.2 miles, adding up to a marathon. They get marathon finishers medals, t-shirts, and a hat. My girls have been doing about 6-7 miles a week for the last 4 weeks. For their birthday we got them their very first Garmin watches and they were so excited! Just like last year, it was supposed to rain, but the rain held off and the race was great!

Saturday my oldest daughter turned 13!!! I can hardly believe it. A lot of people dread the teenage years, but I can honestly say that I don’t.

Alyssa also wanted to make her own cake and she went with a football theme :). We made the goal posts out of straws :).

We love to make fun cakes around here!!! Here are some of my favorites:

birthdayI think this was Alyssa’s 7th birthday. We made a cake out of cones and brought ice cream :).

Trust me, I have more…but you get the idea 🙂

My girls spent part of the day Saturday at a friends house, so my husband and I decided to do our long runs on a nearby trail. I had 14 miles to do and decided to copy a workout that I had seen on Allie’s Instagram. It was such a beautiful day!!!!

3 mile warm up, 3 miles @ 7:40, 3 miles @ 6:50, 3 miles @ 7, 1 mile @ 7:40, 1 mile cool down. I think this is an awesome workout for endurance and speed. Unfortunately, I did not hit the paces. I still had a really good 14 mile run with my 13th mile being my fastest before a cool down mile. Here is what it looked like:

(8:01, 7:54, 7:34, 7:21, 7:22, 7:22, 6:54, 6:59, 7:22, 7:21, 7:39, 7:06, 6:46)     average:7:23. Some of the earlier miles were faster than they were supposed to be and I was having a hard time with the miles @ 6:50 and 7 min pace, but I was able to make the last mile fast.

I am definitely going to be trying this workout again!

This week was a little less miles with the traveling, but a really good week.

Mon-8.3 @ 8:01

Tues- 8.3 @ 8:09

Wed & Thurs- Off

Friday- 8.3 @ 7:53

Sat- 14 miles

Total= 38.9 miles.

For those of you getting ready for Boston…it is only a week away!!!! Rest up!

What is your favorite kind of cake?…honestly, I am going to say ice cream :). I really don’t like cake all that much, but ice cream…I love!

Thanks!!!! It definitely gets harder to keep up with the pictures, especially as they get older too! I also noticed that when my 2nd was born I have a lot of the both of them, but not very many with just my youngest :).

I would absolutely love to run with you someday!! We have such similar paces and I know we would push each other…in the best way possible! I love that you tried that workout b/c I love it and have found it so helpful with my pacing. You did amazing!!! I also love all your cakes and really love that your daughter wanted a football theme!
I also love that they completed their marathons – so, so exciting. You and your husband are setting such great examples for them and obviously it’s not going unnoticed. Awesome weekend my friend!

That workout was a great workout! I also love splitting up longer runs like that!
My oldest is definitely a sports fan :)…I think every year it is some sports theme.
It looks like we both had a weekend full of birthday fun :)!!!

That is still a killer workout, even if you didn’t hit all the paces! I agree, great for endurance.

Happy birthday to your daughter! My oldest turned 14 this year. Teenage years have been pretty easy here so far, too, but there definitely is a bit of moodiness that creeps in, as well as increasing desires to spend time with friends/not family.

And great job to your girls with their runs! There’s nothing better than sharing the love of running with your kids.

I loved the workout and I love splitting up longer runs like that….seems to make them go by really fast.
It is funny I really don’t feel old at all, but somehow having a teenager makes me feel old(er) 🙂
I love when we can all participate and make running a family thing! Even if it us going to watch my husband, or them coming to watch me, or my husband and I watching the girls…SO much fun!!! I know you do a lot of that with your kids too, that is really great!!!
