Decisions to make & races to run

Happy Friday & Happy Fall!!!!!!!!

I definitely love and miss summer, but I am totally excited about Fall now!!!!

The cooler weather, the leaves, the pumpkins, the bonfires, the hayrides, the apples…I just love it!!!

I decided at the last-minute, like last night, to sign up for a 5k tonight! It is a small 5k right in my town. I have never raced at night so we’ll see how this goes.

I also decided to do a trail half marathon on Oct 3rd! It is the Zooma Dirty Damsel Trail Race. I don’t usually run trail races. I have only actually ever done one other and it was a really flat and easy trail. I am pretty excited to use this race as a fun long run for my marathon training. I have been wanting a change of scenery for my long run and this will be perfect! Here is a picture of the awesome medals:

Now onto my decisions. I have been training for and planning to run the Richmond Marathon. My husband and I ran it last year and loved it!!! We actually signed up for this  race right after we finished it last year. It turns out that he was given the opportunity to go on a mission trip to the Philippines and will now be gone on race day. We are able to defer his race, now I just need to decide what I want to do.

Here are my options:

1. I can still do Richmond…I am just a little nervous about the logistics. It is 3 hours away. I am not really worried about that, but finding parking race morning and finding my car again after the race is my concern. I have done it before though so I know I can do it. I ran the Indianapolis Marathon 2 years ago and was able to figure it out.

2. I can defer Richmond and run Baltimore. My issues with this option are that Baltimore is harder (more hills) and 4 weeks sooner! I will definitely have to adjust my goals accordingly.

Decisions, decisions!!!! What would you do?

Training this week has been great. The weather has been absolutely beautiful!!!!!! Wednesday was an AMAZING run for me! Spoiler alert: 10k PR in a training run!

Monday- 9 moderate paced miles

Tues- 9 moderate paced miles

Wed- 1.5 mile warm up and cool down 7 miles @ 6:34 pace! I ran my 10k PR in this threshold training run!!! The plan called for 7 miles @ half marathon pace. I wanted to go hard, but in control and not look at my watch (at least not often). I didn’t look at my watch until mile 1 beeped…6:24. Agh! Too fast! I tried not to panic. I just relaxed, backed off that pace a little and kept going hard. 6:35, 6:27, 6:32, 6:41, 6:41, 6:37. This is obviously way faster than my 1/2 marathon pace…it is faster than my 10k pace. It just came together though and I felt like I could maintain the pace so I did.

Thursday- 4 miles 8:59 pace and then a trip to the zoo with our home school group!!!!

That is my week….how was your week?

What would you do with my marathon situation?

Who else is LOVING fall?!

Hooray for Fall!! I love this time of the year! 🙂
I would stick to the Richmond Marathon. You have been working so hard for this goal race and you are going to really shine on race day. I know it’s a bummer that your hubby won’t be there, but you will do great. With Baltimore being 4 weeks earlier, that is a big difference!
Will you have anyone with you in Richmond?
I know you will make the right decision for you – good luck!!
BTW, AWESOME 10k time – woo hoo!!! You are smoking fast!!! 🙂

First of all – CONGRATS on the 10K – wow!!! Second, it’s good to have decisions, right? My suggestion would be to go with the race that puts your mind and body most at ease. You don’t want to have to worry about anything but racing on race day, but you may be cursing yourself over the hills. It’s definitely a tough one but, whatever you chose, I’m sure you will kill it!!!
